Our Work.

We’re currently working on three collaborative campaigns.

Stronger Charities Alliance

ADN is the founder and convener of this national collaboration of over 120 charities, which formed in 2017 in response to a number of bills which would have silenced charities on issues of national importance.

Formerly known as Hands Off Our Charities, the has a vision of a thriving not-for-profit sector, where charities are empowered to advocate for lasting change for our communities.

Protect the Right to Protest

A vital tool with which people and communities challenge institutionalised power, no political system can claim to be a democracy without the right to protest. But in Australia, this right is under threat.

We’re working to support grassroots groups and community organisations pushing back against a wave of anti-protest legislation across the country.

Fair democracy

Fair Democracy

The Fair Democracy campaign aims to build a healthy Australian democracy that works for us, not just for the powerful few.

We are working to strengthen our democracy by getting big money out of politics, tackling disinformation and regulating lobbying.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create a thriving democracy in which civil society is robust and vibrant; public debate is informed, fair and diverse; citizens are engaged, government is clean, open and accountable and the wellbeing of people and the planet comes first.

A healthy democracy should be the foundation of Australian society; the way our democratic system functions impacts every other aspect of our lives, from how our health and education systems are resourced, to the clean air we breathe. We know that when societies lose democratic freedoms, they are extremely hard to get back. We can’t take ours for granted.

The Australian Democracy Network brings civil society organisations with an interest in democratic integrity, advocacy and civil liberties together to share information, resources and strategy. By enhancing coordination, participation, communication and connectedness across the social change sector, we increase the impact and effectiveness of all our work.
